Police Nab Dollar Counterfeiters Operating Since 2018

March 10, 2021 | 11:28 pm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police arrested two professional counterfeiters specializing in making fake U.S. dollar bills based in Bekasi, West Java, on February 13.

The ciminals managed to print a total of 540,000 dollar bills since 2018.

Police announced that HS (50) and AD (47) were captured in a house in the Dukuh Zamrud Housing complex. The authorities also detained two other suspects, SUL (57) and IS (49), who both act as buyers and distributor of the fake money.

"In the arrest, we confiscated one thousand $100 bills," said Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson, Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus, on March 10.

The police explained that one of the suspects learned to print his own counterfeit money on the internet and through social media. Suspects HS, who had run the illegal operation since 2018, would sell one bill of $100 for Rp7 million.

“Printing one thousand fake bills only costs Rp300,000 to cover the costs of the paper, ink, and other elements,” said the police spokesperson.
