TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has finally signed the contentious Job Creation Law. The passage of the omnibus law was known in a copy of the official file uploaded on the State Secretariat Legal Information and Documentation Network (JDIH) website.
“[President] decides, enacts the Job Creation Law,” as quoted from the official website of the JDIH on Monday night, November 2, 2020.
In this policy, Jokowi considered that the state must take various efforts to fulfill citizens’ rights to work and have a decent living through the new law.
The omnibus law was reportedly expected to be able to absorb the widest possible Indonesian workforce amid increasingly fierce competition and demands of economic globalization.
The Job Creation Law sparked widespread rejection from the community, such as workers, students, civil society coalitions, and a number of mass organizations. Other than staging demonstrations, people or groups objecting to the new law planned to file a judicial review to the Constitutional Court.
