TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Komunitas Langit Selatan [south sky community] on Monday said the last penumbral lunar eclipse in 2020 was set to take place on November 30, which was written on the stargazing community’s website.

“The moon will take the form as an eclipse as it arises,” wrote Avivah Yamani, an amateur astronomer from the Komunitas Langit Selatan on Monday, November 2.

Later on November 30, the astronomical phenomenon is expected to start at 14:32 WIB and peak at 16:44 WIB before it ends likely at 18:53 WIB.

Throughout the pandemic-stricken 2020, there were a total of four lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses. Two prior penumbral eclipses were observable in Indonesia on January 11 and June 6, while the one on November 30 is expected to be observable too.

The moon is expected to reach its closest distance to Earth on November 14, 2020, with 357,837 kilometers between the two floating rocks in space before it reaches the farthest point or apogee again. The stark darkness after November 15 is said to be the perfect moment for astrophotographers to capture the milky way or deep sky.
