Kompas Founder Jakob Oetama to be Buried in Kalibata Heroes Cemetary

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kompas Gramedia founder Jakob Oetama passed away today, September 9. He was 88 years old. The deceased will be buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetary on Thursday, September 10.
Kompas.com's editor in chief Wisnu Nugroho said that Jakob's body will be laid to rest at the Kompas Gramedia Building in South Palmerah tonight, before being taken to Kalibata for the burial ceremony tomorrow.
"We will take him to his final resting place at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery," Kompas Gramedia's corporate communication director Rusdi Amral said in a written statement, Wednesday, September 9.
Jakob Oetama died at 13:05 Jakarta time at the Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital, North Jakarta.
Jakob, a prominent name in Indonesian journalism, started his career as an editor for Penabur Jakarta magazine. In 1963, Jakob co-founded Intisari with PK Ojong. The magazine became the forerunner of Kompas Gramedia.
