TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police said that Abdul Rahman, the man who attacked the police station in South Daha, Kalimantan, joined ISIS through social media. The Police Headquarters' head of Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono, said that Abdul Rahman had often bragged about being an ISIS volunteer on his Facebook account.
"We believe he has affiliations with the ISIS network and knew of the organization via Facebook," Awi said in an online press conference, Tuesday, June 9.
Awi said that Abdul Rahman learned about the terrorist organization through social networks.
Abdul Rahman made an attack at the South Daha Police Station in South Kalimantan on June 1, 2020. He charged an officer who was on the night shift that day, Brig. Leonardo, and killed him.
The police ordered Abdul to surrender, but he refused and had to be shot. Abdul died in the hospital.
Four days later on June 5, the police's anti-terror squad, Densus 88, arrested two terrorist suspects, AS and TA. They are suspected to have taken part in planning the attack on the Daha police station.
