TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) recorded that it had handled 27 cases of corruption in the natural resources sector. KPK director for research and development, Wawan Wardian, said that the antigraft body focuses on guarding natural resources as it contributes greatly to the state, both for tax and non-tax revenues as well as labor absorption.
"Since 2009, the KPK, through its Office of Deputy for Prevention, has even participated in preventing corruption, especially related to forestry, in the field of natural resources," Wawan said during an online discussion on the "Restructuring Natural Resources Policies and Regulations in Indonesia", Wednesday, May 13.
Based on data, the anti-graft agency recorded that 37 to 40 million people are involved in work in the SDA sector.
Unfortunately, Wawan said, the sector is still rampant with management problems, one of which is corruption.
"Therefore, the Corruption Eradication Commission tries to work with university scholars as well as friends in ministries and state institutions, and also friends in civil society, to form a movement," he said.
The movement he refers to is the National Movement to Save Natural Resources (GNPSDA).
