TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government reported a total of 1,007 deaths from the new coronavirus disease called Covid-19 as of May 12, 2020. Based on the Ministry of Health’s data, Jakarta recorded the highest number of deaths, amounting to 443.
Below Jakarta, East Java Province saw 155 virus death tolls. “Followed by West Java with 98 deaths and Central Java with 66 deaths,” said the government’s spokesman for the Covid-19 mitigation, Achmad Yurianto, in a written statement, Wednesday, May 13.
Moreover, 56 patients in Banten, 49 patients in South Sulawesi, and 24 patients in North Sulawesi succumbed to the pneumonia-like disease.
Meanwhile, regions with no death cases so far included Jambi, North Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Yurianto added.
As of May 12, Indonesia has 14,749 confirmed cases with 3,063 recoveries.
Previously, Yurianto asserted that many of the coronavirus-related deaths occurred because patients had pre-existing medical conditions that lowered their chances to survive.
In detail, he outlined that 52.5 percent of Covid-19 patients suffered from hypertension, 34.5 percent had diabetes mellitus, 20.5 percent had heart diseases, 17 percent had chronic respiratory diseases, and 8.2 percent had other types of respiratory problems.
