TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo lamented the clash between the personnel of police and military in Papua that killed three police officers on Sunday, April 12, 2020.
“Regardless of the reason, authorities who are supposed to maintain the security and public order must not get caught up in a brawl,” said Bamsoet as he familiarly called in a written statement on Monday, April 13.
He said the stability and security in the country’s easternmost province would be difficult to achieve if the officers easily get provoked.
However, Bamsoet appreciated the orders made by the regional police and Cendrawasih Military Command that temporarily banned their personnel from leaving the headquarters.
He then suggested immediate resolution of the incident so that both regional security bodies could focus on their own tasks in maintaining a safe, peaceful environment in the area.
“Do not let the tension between the security forces is benefitted by the armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua that aims to create fear among the community,” Bamsoet underlined.
Earlier reported, a clash between the personnel of the Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 755/20/3-Kostrad and Mamberamo Raya Police officers personnel broke out in Mamberamo Raya District, on Sunday morning, April 12, at 7:42 local times. The incident killed three police officers due to gunfire and injured two others.
