Adi Sumarmo Airport Closed for 2 Hours due to Fog

March 12, 2020 | 01:05 pm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura (Persero) stopped all activities temporarily at Adi Sumarmo Airport in Solo this morning. It was done because of a fog covering the area around the airport, causing limited visibility.

Adi Sumarmo Airport spokesman, Danar Dewi, said that they had decided to close the airport from 06:00 West Indonesian Time (WIB) until 07:30 West Indonesian Time (WIB). However, until 07:30 West Indonesian Time (WIB) the fog is still quite thick.

"The visibility is only 800 meters," she said. These conditions make flight activities unsafe.

Until now the closure had an impact on the morning flights. Lion Air with flight number JT-924 from Solo to Denpasar must postpone their departure.

Likewise, the Lion Air JT-531 from Solo to Soekarno-Hatta Airport also had to postpone the departure. The plane that scheduled to depart at 06:10 West Indonesian Time (WIB) could only fly at 08.19 West Indonesian Time (WIB).

The weather conditions around Solo was covered with thick clouds since morning. Some areas were also covered with thick fog.

Previously, in early March, Adi Sumarmo Airport had been closed from morning to evening. The closure was due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Merapi spread around the airport area.
