Govt Reminds Schools to be Active in COVID-19 Prevention

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry in its latest circular reminds schools to actively practice preventive steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) such as avoiding direct physical contact among students and school faculty members.
“We also urge students to avoid borrowing their stationary to others. [Better] to use your own,” said the ministry’s acting head of Research, Development and Books Agency, Totok Suprayitno, on Wednesday.
Totok further explained that the coronavirus that spread on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship a while back was due to shared writing tools at the ship’s registration area.
The circular letter on March 9 regarding the prevention of COVID-19 signed by Education Minister Nadiem Makarim called for schools and college’s’ health units to be optimized and proactive in containing the spread of the virus.
Moreover, schools, campuses, and other agencies related to the education industry are reminded to file official reports to the Health Agency if they encounter a large number of absent students. Education agencies are also asked to ensure that the food students are provided with are properly cooked.
