TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The managements of PT Visionet Internasional, or OVO, announced its readiness to follow the steps of the local decacorn, Gopay, in providing digital wallet services to pay school tuitions.
OVO president-director Karaniya Dharmasaputra said the company only needs to wait for an official instruction from the Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry.
“We are ready to show our support as it is a positive program. Hopefully, we can soon provide the services,” said Karaniya in Senayan on Wednesday, February 19.
The president-director admits that OVO has yet met with education minister Nadiem Makarim to discuss partnerships with schools but is eyeing to host a meeting with the Gojek founder-turned-state minister.
OVO made it clear that it does not place any suspicion toward Gopay - sister company for Gojek - which offered the digital school tuition means of payment first. “This is the government’s program, so I am sure there was no exclusivity. It’s a national program,” said Karaniya Dharmasaputra.
Previously reported, GoPay, Gojek’s digital wallet platform, clarified that its new service allowing users to pay school tuition fees from the app’s GoBills feature is not related to the position held by former Gojek CEO Nadiem Makarim.
