TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party politician and House of Representatives (DPR) member Andre Rosiade explained his involvement during an online prostitution bust in Padang, West Sumatra on January 26.

"The local residents have repeatedly conveyed about what happened that day. Coincidentally, I came to Padang on January 26," Andre said at the Gerindra Central Representative Office, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, 11 February 2020.

At that time, Andre claimed to have witnessed with his own eyes the transaction of online prostitution practice through a messaging application and that he reported the information to the West Sumatra Police.

"They sent the cyber team to meet me, and I introduced them to the locals (who reported the incident)," Andre said.

Based on the report, the police raided the five-star hotel in Padang and arrested a sex worker and the pimp.

Andre refuted that he had committed a violation, arguing that he only delivering information from the public.

"The one who arrested (the prostitute) was the police. It was not me. I only listened to the people's aspirations," he said.

However, Andre Rosiade's participation in the raid drew criticism for allegedly trapping the sex worker. As a result, he is currently undergoing an examination by the Gerindra Party Honorary Court today, and planned to be examined by the House of Representatives Ethics Council (MKD).
