TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central management of the Gelora Bung Karno sporting complex (PPK GBK) has prepared the routes for the Formula E electric car race circuit. Furthermore, the circuit has been presented to the International Automotive Federation (FIA) and Formula E Operations (FEO) teams and received a fairly good response.
"Our position is to accommodate because previously, the organizers needed a venue for the execution of Formula E," said Director of PPK GBK, Winarto, in his office, on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Winarto clarified that the route starts at the West Plaza of the main stadium. Then, it exits to Asia Africa through the Century Hotel, and re-enters GBK through gate 5. The circuit continues straight to the East parking lot, and turns at the Eastern Plaza to return to the West Plaza of the main stadium.
Winarto claimed that the circuit has only been discussed briefly as FIA and the Jakarta Administration having visited GBK on Friday last week. The visit followed a rejection from the commission for the development of the Medan Merdeka area for the race to be held at Monas.
"On Friday the organizers and the Jakarta Government came to explore (the possibility of) GBK becoming a Formula E circuit," he said.
The GBK complex is being prepared as an alternative circuit, after the proposed Monas circuit has caused a polemic, with the FIA having offered to design the GBK circuit.
