TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After meeting with State Secretariat Ministry on Wednesday, February 5, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asserted that the revitalization project of the National Monument or Monas would march on.
“Yes, as we have discussed earlier, the renovation of the south areas [of Monas] will be resumed,” said Anies right after the meeting, which was also attended by the project steering committee, held at the State Secretariat Ministry office.
Anies explained that based on the meeting, the revamping of the south area of the city’s icon is in line with the Presidential Decree No. 25/1997, noting that the area was initially designed as open space, which then inspired the project designer to realize it following the current condition.
During the discussion, Anies presented his administration’s plan to change the south area currently used as the parking lot, IRTI field, and Lenggang Jakarta food court area into green public space. The steering committee, he claimed, appreciated the idea.
In addition, the meeting agreed on the replantation in the areas where trees previously cut down for the sake of the project. This would be executed by adding vegetation in the platter box, the governor underlined.
Anies Baswedan further stressed that the provincial administration would draft the final design of the Monas revitalization project in detail and submit it to the steering committee for approval.
