TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Secretary Saefullah said the city administration has started to replant trees previously cut down for the construction project of the National Monument or Monas revitalization.
“I have been just informed today that the replantation has been carried out since Sunday afternoon in Monas areas,” said Saefullah when met at the Jakarta High Prosecutors' Office, South Jakarta, Tuesday, February 4.
Saefullah claimed the plantation of a total of 300 trees is currently in progress to replace some 190 trees cut down in the park areas, located in Merdeka Selatan.
“One falling tree must be replaced with three trees. That is the regulation,” he underlined.
When asked about the trees previously cut down, Saefullah balked at responding and instantly boarded his car and left the building.
Earlier, the spokesperson of Monas management Irfal Guci confirmed the replantation program at the project site of Monas revitalization starting early Monday, January 3.
Irfan said the new trees will be set beside the project site, precisely on the left and right side of the south plaza that he claimed to be in line with the initial plan of the revitalization.
