TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) defense commission member, Sukamta, urged for the ratification of the Draft Maritime Security Law following the incident over Natuna sea involving Chinese boats trespassing Indonesian borders.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) member voiced his concern about the overlapping law on maritime security in Indonesia among a number of instances, or the multi-agency single task concept.
He deemed the aforementioned concept as a budget waste and proposed for the initiation of a ‘single agency multi-task.’
“This is why I urge for the Maritime Security draft law to be included in the 2019-2024 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas),” said Sukamta in a message to Tempo today.
He said incidents at Natuna involving Chinese boats could be suppressed only if Indonesia’s outer maritime security is managed by the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), which will be further strengthened by the maximization of Indonesia’s maritime security primary weaponry defense system (Alutsista).
