Policeman Injured in Manggarai Neighborhood Brawl

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta District Police Chief, Sr. Comr. Bastoni Purnama said a member of his force was injured on duty. The officer was wounded during a neighborhood brawl in Manggarai, South Jakarta last night, October 29.
In front of Pasaraya Mall, Tuesday night, two neighborhood groups attacked one another. Tebet Sub-District chief Dyan Airlangga said the fight ensued after tauntings and insults on social media.
First Police Brigadier Daru was hit by a sharp weapon while trying to secure one of the brawlers. As a result, he suffered slash wounds in the hands and back.
Bastoni said Daru was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital or RSCM in Jakarta Pusat.
"He is in good condition now," Bastoni said.
Neighborhood brawls happen quite often in Manggarai. Last night's incident had caused the Commuter Line to stop operating before resuming services at around 19:30, local time.
