Tjahjo Kumolo Set to Simplify Echelon III, IV in His Ministry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN RB) Minister Tjahjo Kumolo was set to implement a policy on the reduction of echelon III and IV in his ministry.
“I will reduce echelon III and IV this month. If we want to instruct other ministries or institutions to simplify echelon, it must be started from PAN RB Ministry,” said Tjahjo in his office, Jakarta, today, Oct. 30.
The former Home Affairs Minister eyed the completion of the plan on simplifying the central and regional bureaucracy within no longer than a year. According to him, this aimed at creating a more effective public service.
Tjahjo Kumolo claimed to have pledged to President Jokowi to implement the plan in his ministry in a half year. “I made a promise to President that I do fail if I cannot complete it in a half year.”
The plan to simplify echelon in the ministry followed President Jokowi`s speech during the ministerial inauguration on Sunday, Oct. 20. Jokowi highlighted that investment to create employment must be prioritized. Thus, such long procedures and bureaucracy must be trimmed.
