Puan Maharani: Gibran Has Chance to Run for Solo Mayoral Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The PDIP central executive board (DPP) chair Puan Maharani said that President Jokowi’s son Gibran Rakabuming still has a chance to be a mayoral candidate for Solo from her party. Puan added Gibran has the same opportunity as other candidates' before the party issues an official decision.
“As long as there is no decision made yet, we open the registration door as wide as possible for those who are willing to run in the regional head election through the party,” said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, October 28.
Puan explained there were several levels in the party for the registration as a candidate; a party cadre could register through branch executive board (DPC), the regional executive board (DPD), or central executive board (DPP).
The House speaker further said that after the registration, the prospective candidates were required to take the fit and proper test before the party made a decision.
When asked about the party’s DPC Solo that possessing its own candidate, Puan Maharani said that the regional election race was still a long time to take place. “It’s in 2020,” she said.
Previously, Jokowi’s eldest son visited PDIP chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri and conveyed his intention to run in the 2020 Solo Mayoral Election. He also claimed to have possessed the party’s membership card (KTA) through PDIP Solo.
“I have owned KTA. I will run [the election] through PDIP,” said Gibran after meeting with Megawati on Thursday, October 24.
PDIP Solo had actually decided to propose Achmad Purnomo and Teguh Prakosa in the regional head election next year. However, should he could not run through the DPC, Gibran Rakabuming aimed to get through the DPP.
