TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has inked the Presidential Decree (Keppres) concerning the amnesty for Baiq Nuril Maknun on Monday, July 29.
“I have signed the Keppres for Ibu Nuril this morning. So, Ibu Nuril is allowed to take the decree at the Palace whenever needed,” said the President at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, as quoted from the press release by the Presidential Secretariat.
The President mentioned that he did not mind if Nuril was willing to meet him directly after the decree issuance. “Just manage the time. I’d be glad to welcome [her],” he said.
Baiq Nuril, who was a staffer at Mataram state senior high school (SMAN) 7, was sentenced to six months in jail and a fine of Rp500 million for violating Article 27(1) of the Law on Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE Law). She was found guilty of spreading a recording of her being sexually assaulted by her headmaster.
The Supreme Court (MA) rejected Baiq Nuril's appeal and charged her over defamation on July 4, 2019. She then submitted a request for amnesty to President Jokowi.
