Transportation Ministry to Issue New Policy on Airfare

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTransportation Ministry spokesman Hengki Angkasawan said the ministry’s Legal Bureau and Air Transportation Directorate General are currently drafting new regulation on airfare.

“We cannot explain it in detail yet because the draft bill is underway,” said Hengki in a written statement on Wednesday, March 27.

The ministry made the statement in response to the leak of meeting minutes with several stakeholders through messaging service on which saying that the government urged airliners drop prices of the flight ticket.

The meeting was attended by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, airliners including Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Lion Air, and AirAsia, as well as Indonesia National Air Carrier Association (INACA), Traveloka, and Tiket.com.

According to Hengki, the new policy expected to overcome public complaint on the airfare issue.is being drafted with the involvement of airliners. Hengki ensured the government will stand in between the people and the national aviation industry.

As of date, the draft bill on airfare has entered the final stage. “We will release it soon,” Hengky concluded.
