Kivlan Zen Challenges Wiranto to Debate on 1998 Riot Mastermind

TEMPO.CO, JakartaRetired major general Kivlan Zen responded the statement of Coordinating Minister for Political, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto who challenging him to conduct a ghost oath (sumpah pocong) in light of the mastermind behind Indonesia’s 1998 mass-riot. Kivlan said that he preferred to hold a debate rather than the oath.

“Write this on Tempo, I challenge him to a debate. Does he dare to? Don’t take a ghost oath, that’s a satanic oath. Take an oath in the name of God, as a warrior's oath,” said Kivlan when contacted Tuesday, February 26.

Kivlan also called Wiranto to visit Human Rights Court and explain the incident in 1998.

A clash between Kivlan and Wiranto generated when the retired major general accused Wiranto of being a mastermind behind the 1998 riot during an event 'Para Tokoh Bicara 98' at Ad Premier Building, South Jakarta, on Monday, February 25. Kivlan also suspected Wiranto for playing a double role and propaganda issue during his serving as the Indonesian military which was at the time known as ABRI.

Upon the accusation, Wiranto openly challenged presidential candidate number 02 Prabowo Subianto and Kivlan Zen to prove their allegations regarding the mastermind behind the 1998 mass-riot by taking a ghost oath.
