TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The son of convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Baasyir, Abdurohim, said that his father had already packed his belongings inside his prison cell after numerous news reports of the president promising Baasyir an unconditional release.
“He already cleaned-up his cell after being promised to be freed,” said Abdurohim at the Indonesian House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Abdurohim also said that a welcoming event by the Ngruki Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) in Solo was also canceled. This boarding school is owned by Abu Bakar himself.

However, the terrorist convict’s freedom was postponed after President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that Abu Bakar Baasyir must sign a letter of allegiance for Indonesia’s unitary state (NKRI) and the five state ideologies (Pancasila).
Baasyir’s son implied that the disappointment was mainly because his father never requested his release, but was offered by Yusril Iza Mahendra on Friday last week.
“He never asked [for his release], but was offered by Prof. Yusril,” he said. “What Yusril promised and what was approved by the president [for Abu Bakar Baasyir] should be kept,” said Baasyir’s son.
