Jusuf Kalla on Australia Objecting Abu Bakar Baasyir's Release

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla implied that the government ignored the Australian Government’s objection upon Indonesia’s plans to release convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Baasyir.
“We have not considered the objections from other countries. This is the same with Australia when they did not acknowledge Indonesia’s protest regarding Australia’s Jerusalem embassy move,” said Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential office on Tuesday.

The Vice President asserted that the Abu Bakar Baasyir’s release is solely based on humanitarian reasons after considering the convict’s age and the 8-year jail time he has served.
This is so [Abu Bakar Baasyir] could peacefully live his last moments in life,” said the VP.
Previous reports state that Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison had contacted the Indonesian government regarding Indonesia’s plan to release Abu Bakar Baasyir from jail. Morrison said that his country’s position upon the matter will not change and has expressed their utmost objection against Indonesia’s move.
