Transport Ministry: New Policy on Online Taxi Valid in May 2019

December 18, 2018 | 07:31 pm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has ratified new regulation concerning online taxi or ojek online. The ministry’s Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that the policy as the replacement of Ministerial Decree (PM) No. 108/2017 will be valid in May 2019.

“This rule will be valid six months after the signing today by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, which is five months ahead,” said Budi Setiyadi in his office in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 18.

The new regulation will replace the Transportation Ministerial Decree or Permenhub No. 108/2017 regarding the Implementation of People’s Transportation with Non-Route Public Motor Vehicles. The Supreme Court (MA) annulled the Permenhub on May 31, 2018.

Budi explained that the new policy has a particularity, for example, points that had been annulled by MA could not be re-induced. “And Permenhub 108 has removed several articles which cannot be ruled by MA such as KIR (the vehicle road-worthiness) test and the sticker issue,” he noted.

However, vehicles owned by an individual or micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) are still accommodated in the new regulation.

According to Budi, several articles were removed from the new policy. “Such as general driving license (SIM Umum) which is the authority of the police,” he added.

Budi previously mentioned that applicators of online taxi agreed on the new tariff stipulated in the new regulation which was set at Rp3,500 to Rp6,500 during a peak hour.
