TEMPO.CO, Bogor - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo reminded that the global economy is still being shrouded by unpredictable uncertainty which makes it difficult to calculate.
“I envision that everyone here has directly felt the effects of the world’s economy that is difficult to predict and calculate,” said the President today, July 5, in a meeting with a number of Regents at the Bogor Presidential Palace.
Jokowi, who was accompanied by State Secretary Pratikno, asserted that the government must blatantly identify the current economic condition. However, the president reminded that Indonesia must be grateful since it can still manage to experience a five percent economic growth.
“I guess that is a factor that we must be grateful of,” said President Jokowi.
He then compared Indonesia to other countries that are experiencing a drastic economic collapse, “Take China for example, from 11 or 10 percent, they immediately fell to 6.5 percent,” said the President.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution predicted that Indonesia’s second-quarter economic growth would eventually reach the level of 5.3 percent, which is higher than the country’s first quarterly growth of 5.06 percent.
Darmin predicted that the growth was caused by the shifting harvest time that has moved the harvest season to April and May, which is in the second quarterly.
“Whatever happens we would like our economic growth to be in great quality, which can lead to our strong fundamental economy,” said President Jokowi.
