TEMPO.CO, Tulungagung - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) remains bullish that its candidate, Syahri Mulyo, will win the regional head election in Tulungagung regency despite the naming of Syahri as a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“The party continues to be solid and is sure to win [the Tulungagung election],” said PDI-P Tulungagung regency's campaign team member Heru Santoso on Friday, June 8.
According to Heru, the suspect status of Tulungagung regent candidate Syahri Mulyo will not compromise PDI-P’s attempt on winning the election, and that the party will continue its efforts despite Syahri’s absence.

Heru went on to clarify the graft accusations against Syahri. He said that Syahri Mulyo’s current status was normal citizen as opposed to regional administration member. Heru argued that Syahri was incapable of interfering the policies in the Tulungagung administrative environment during the time the KPK made the arrest.
After claiming innocence for Syahri, Heru said the party would comply with the ongoing legal procedures. However, Heru called on the public to put forth the presumption of innocence for the candidate that the PDI-P was endorsing.
The Tulungagung regional head election is participated by two pairs of candidate: Syahri Mulyo-Maryoto Bhirowo and Margiono-Eko Prisdianto.
