TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) responded positively to the government's decision in reviewing the long holiday for 2018 Eid al-Fitr. According to Apindo Chairman Hariyadi Sukamdani, the duration which was previously agreed for ten days should be shortened.
"We strongly recommend that long joint leave to be reviewed because four days of Eid holiday is enough, two days before and after, as in previous years," he said when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, May 1.
Hariyadi argued the additional joint leave could detrimental for the entrepreneurs. First, the longer the holiday, the more production might costs, particularly for the exports since that is related to the product loading into the ship which must follow the schedule.
"If there is an additional holiday, that will disrupt all [business works]," Hariyadi said, adding that the company productivity would also be hampered.
He then touched on that the employees would be forced to take the leave based on the decision. "That is the joint leave which must be taken into effect to all [empolyees]. In a year, they only get 12 days off, but with the new policy, it is reduced to seven days," he explained.
As reported earlier, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Asman Abnur announced to review the decision on the additional joint leave for Eid al-Fitr 1439 H along with Religious Affair Ministry and Manpower Ministry.
