TEMPO.CO, Malang - The Malang Legislative Council [DPRD] is unlikely to perform its duties following the arrest of 19 of its members. The Corruption Eradication Commission has named the 19 councilors as suspects in a bribery case.
"The legislation, supervision and budgeting processes will be disrupted," constitutional law expert from Malang Widyagama University, Anwar Cengkeng, said on Monday, April 2.
Anwar said the number of the remaining Malang councilors was not enough for the DPRD to make decisions. In accordance with Malang DPRD's regulations, all DPRD's decisions must be approved by at least 30 out of 45 members of the council. With the 19 members arrested, there are only 26 councilors left in the DPRD.
