TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended a meeting of leaders at the D-8 countries 9th Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday morning local time.
Together with other D-8 leaders, Kalla will discuss the future development of the D-8 that has been established for 20 years.
The D-8 members are Turkey, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Egypt. These countries represent 13 percent of the world's population, and make up for 60 percent of the world's Muslim population
In the 9th summit this year, two non-members Azerbaizan and Guinea will also attend along with seven global organizations UNIDO, OCI, IDB, IRCICA, ECO, SESRIC, and BSEC.
Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi said on Friday morning that the 9th D-8 Summit will be marked with the release of the Istanbul Declaration (Bosphorus) and the Istanbul Action Plan. The declaration is the D-8 country leaders' political statements on future enhancement of their cooperation. Meanwhile, Istanbul Action Plan will elaborate on the details of the partnerships.
