TEMPO.CO, Subang-Imas Aryumningsih, Deputy Regent of Subang, West Java, said her administration has earmarked Rp1 billion to build replacement houses and rehabilitate damaged houses from flash flood in Sukakerti Village, Cisalak Sub-district. “The funds are readily available,” she told Tempo on Monday, May 30, 2016.
According to Imas, the flash flood that occured on Sunday night has destroyed four homes in Cihideung Girang Village and Sukamukti Village. Whereas 32 homes suffered heavy and light damage.
Imas explained that the funds of Rp1 billion are taken from Rp7 billion contingency fund in the 2016 regional budget. However, construction of new homes is hampered by its location. “We have decided to relocate [residents] to newer, safer location, but recommendation from provincial geologist is yet to be issued,” she said.
Owners of damaged homes still have to stay in evacuation shelter in Sukakerti Village Hall. During current emergency response period, the victims may get back to their homes. However, victims whose homes are damaged may stay in the evacuation shelter until the construction of new homes and rehabilitation of damaged homes complete. “Except if they returned home and stayed for a while in their own homes,” Imas said.
Tempo observed that some evacuees have returned to their homes. They can immediately dwell in their homes after hundreds of volunteers helped cleaning resident's homes from mud on Saturday and Sunday. The electricity has also resumed normal operation since Saturday evening.
The number of evacuees from Cihideung Girang and Sukamukti villages are 118 families, or 380 lives. “Thank god, we can immediately dwell in the house that has been cleaned,” said Ahmad, a head of family who were evacuated from Cihideung Girang Village. Ahmad said the supply of basic needs, including diapers, that are donated by volunteers is deemed enough.
