TEMPO.CO, London – Indonesia's position in the Global Terrorism Index, issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP), dropped. In the Index that was released yesterday, Indonesia placed 31st out of 162 countries, down from 2012's 25th position.
Throughout 2013, Indonesia noted 22 incidents categorized as an act of terrorism with 20 victims.
Southeast Asian countries among the list's top spots are the Philippines and Thailand at number nine and ten, respectively. Meanwhile, Myanmar is ranked below Indonesia at the 32nd spot, Malaysia is at 66th while and Vietnam is at number 124.
The list puts Iraq on top with 2,492 attacks that killed 6,300 people. Following Iraq are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Syria. Casualties in the top-five nations totaled at 14.722 people.
