TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Sanitation Sub-Agency has received new garbage trucks from the Jakarta Sanitation Agency as part of the garbage truck revitalization program this year. The new vehicles consist of 10 large trucks with a 10-cubic-meter capacity and seven small trucks with a 6-cubic-meter capacity.
“These additional trucks are still not enough, but we have to utilize them as much as we can,” said South Jakarta Sanitation Sub-Agency chief Zaenal Syarifuddin on Tuesday.
Zaenal said the sub-agency had 135 garbage trucks before the addition. The garbage volume that has to be transported every day is 1,160 cubic meters and the available trucks are insufficient to carry that much volume to the Bantar Gebang landfill. “The distance to Bantar Gebang is quite far,” he said.
He continued that the ideal number for new trucks should be 60 units because some of the existing trucks were already old. “We cannot force to operate old trucks repeatedly,” he said.
The Jakarta Sanitation Agency bought 285 garbage trucks in 2014 through the e-catalog system. The vehicles include large and small dump trucks, shovel loaders and motor carts. All of them are distributed to sub-agencies in the capital.
