TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Local Intelligence Committee (KOMINDA) in Bekasi have found that at least eight mosques in the area have been used as bases for spreading the ideology of the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS). "Pledges of allegiance have been made in Al Muhajirin Mosque in Pulo Sirih, Pekayon," said Bekasi KOMINDA Chief Maryono to Tempo yesterday. Infiltration has been noticed at the remaining seven mosques, such as Muhammad Ramadhan Mosque in Pekayon.
According to Maryono, other mosques that have been infiltrated include Jannatul Firdaus in Taman Galaxi Indah, Al-Jiqro Mosque in Jakasetia, al-Hikmah Mosque in Bekasi Jaya, and Imam Bukhori Mosque. "We have also received information that ISIS sympathizers are focusing their recruitment drive at the Islamic Center in Bekasi," added Maryono.
KOMINDA has identified that these sympathizers belong to the Jama’ah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT) Kota Bekasi group led by Syamsuddin Uba, which has around 50 followers."‘We are certain their actual number is more [than that]," he said. "We have managed to identify 30 members so far," said Maryono.
However, JAT Kota Bekasi leader Syamsuddin Uba has denied the allegations that his group is recruiting ISIS members. Personally, Syamsuddin admitted to support ISIS as they share the same vision and mission. Since ISIS believes in the basic tenets of Islam, Muslims should support their cause, he added.
