TEMPO.CO, Paris - Indonesian students studying in Europe held an angklung (a traditional bamboo music instrument from West Java) music concert at Champ de Mars field located near the foot of Eiffel Tower.
The concert, which was held as a closing event for the 2014 Eurolympique last week, involved members of the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) from France, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain and Spain, and successfully lured visitors from around Champ de Mars, said Syafsir Akhlus, the cultural attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Paris.
Indonesian Ambassador to France Rezlan Ishar Jenie and Indonesian Deputy Ambassadors Ashariyadi and Syafsir also played the angklung in the concert.
The concert was led by Gabriella Alodia, an Indonesian student from the Hydrographic science master program at ENSTA Bretagne, Brest. She is one of the recipients of scholarship from LPDP (Educational Fund Management Institution).
There were 200 angklungs played in the concert. They belonged to Rumah Budaya Indonesia and were later given to the Indonesian Embassy in Paris. Syafsir requested the angklungs from the Ministry of Education and Culture’s directorate of internalization of values and cultural diplomacy to become one of Indonesia’s diplomatic tools in France.
Syafsir hoped the angklungs would boost the interest of French citizens towards Indonesia.
