TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lt. Gen. Budiman, the newly appointed Army Chief of Staff, confirmed that one of his members were killed in action in Jayapura, Papua. Last Saturday, August 31, a member of the Army's Special Corps (Kopassus) Private Andri Candrayansyah, was killed in a shootout at Puncak Jaya, Papua.
Pvt. Andri was ordered to escort a supply convoy when he and the other soldiers were suddenly ambushed by unknown gunmen. "They were suddenly ambushed and getting shot at," said Budiman.
The incident has raised tension among the soldiers deployed in the region. Budiman also added that the incident should be considered as a reason why soldiers should train hard and improve their skills.
