TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Syuro Council Muchsin Ahmad Alatas called on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to restrain himself in response to the FPI clash with residents in Kendal last week. He also urged the president to be more meticulous when observing a certain events, and claimed the FPI were the victims in the Kenal incident.
Muchsin said his organization is currently monitoring and coordinating with the police to uncover all the facts behind the incident. "Don’t just comment on the FPI, comment on the sinful places as well," he asserted.
Muchsin said Yudhoyono’s comments were biased and inappropriate for the leader of a nation, especially considering he called for the disbandment of the FPI. He said the president’s government should be disbanded instead, including the House of Representatives, which he said was rife with corruption.
After the incident, President Yudhoyono said the FPI had damaged the image of Islam through their actions. He said the FPI’s acts of violence, destruction, and taking the law into their own hands does not reflect the true meaning of Islam.
