TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of PT. KAI 1 Operation Region Public Relations Division, Sukendar Mulya said around 80,000 Commuter Line multi-trip cards have been sold since PT. KAI started to charge fares based on distance from July 1 this year. PT. KAI targeted that all passengers will soon start using the card to avoid a long queue.
Sukendar said the card sales have been proven effective to cut the queue at the entrance gates. "I've seen that during busy hours in the morning and in the afternoon. The queues have been reduced," said Sukendar at his office, Friday, July 5.
The existing queues in the gates are mainly caused by those who are not used to using electronic gates. Several passengers still force to enter the gates although they are not opened or simply because those passengers take the wrong queue. "It takes some getting-used-to indeed, but I’m upbeat that after Ied day or by the end of this year at the latest, things will go smoothly," he said.
The distance-based tariff has also made some of the economic class train use to the Commuter Line. Bigger frequency of the Commuter Line trains had made the passengers opt to the Commuter Line.
The new tariff has also made the Commuter Line train fare cheaper. A passenger is charged Rp2,000 for the first 5 stations and Rp500 for the next 3 stations.
