TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak congratulated presidential candidate number two Prabowo Subianto, delivered by UK Ambassador for Indonesia Dominic Jermey.
In a letter uploaded to the Instagram account of the British Embassy to Indonesia @ukinindonesia, Rishi Sunak addressed the letter directly to “Pak Prabowo” or Mr. Prabowo. Sunak congratulated Prabowo for his success in the quick count of the Indonesian presidential election.
Rishi Sunak also said that he hoped to grow further the bilateral relationship with Indonesia into a strategic partnership as Indonesia and the UK celebrate their 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
“I hope we will grow our bilateral relationship further into a genuine Strategic Partnership, with economic prosperity and security at its heart, including working together to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific,” he wrote.
According to Sunak, he and Prabowo have “so many areas of shared collaboration”. Rishi Sunak also expressed his commitment to deepening the UK-Indonesia trading relationship and supporting Indonesia’s application to join the OECD.
“The UK will also continue to work closely with Indonesia on key issues like climate change through the Just Energy Transition Partnership. The growing people-to-people bonds between our two countries are also a priority,” he added.
Rishi Sunak looked forward to developing a strong partnership with Prabowo Subianto going forward, according to the letter.
