18 Days to 2024 Presidential Election; Here's Final Debate's Date, Topics, and Format

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is set to hold the fifth presidential election debate. This will be the third time that the presidential candidates will face each other on the debate stage during the campaign season.
The KPU had hosted four election debates; two of which in December 2023 and the rest two in January 2024, featuring presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Date of Final Election Debate
The final presidential election debate will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, which is ten days prior to the voting date on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. The KPU, however, has not yet announced the venue.
The debate will only involve presidential candidates: Anies Baswedan (candidate number 1), Prabowo Subianto (candidate number 2), and Ganjar Pranowo (candidate number 3).
Topics of Final Election Debate
According to the KPU’s release, the final debate will cover issues related to social welfare, culture, education, information technology, health, employment, human resources, and inclusion.
Format of Final Election Debate
The format of the final debate will be the same as the previous debates. The televised debate will be divided into six segments totaling 120 minutes.
In the first segment, each candidate will present their vision and mission, as well as their programs related to the debate topic. In the second and third segments, each candidate will draw and answer questions prepared by the panelists. The remaining two candidates may also respond to the answers.
In the fourth and fifth segments, each candidate will ask and answer questions of the other. They usually attack each other in this segment. As for the sixth segment, each candidate will give their closing statements.
The KPU has not yet announced the names of the panelists for the final presidential election debate. The panel, however, usually consists of experts, academicians, and practitioners who are members of civil society organizations.
