Fourth Election Debate: Date, Topics, and Panelists

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s presidential election is heating up. The fourth election debate, scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), will gather the vice presidential candidates to face each other in the second debate.
They are Muhaimin Iskandar (number 1) who is the running mate of Anies Baswedan, Gibran Rakabuming Raka (number 2) who is running alongside Prabowo Subianto, and Mahfud Md (number 3) who is the running mate of Ganjar Pranowo.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has already held three election debates; the first and the second in December 2023 and the third one in January 2024. The final debate will take place on February 5, 2024.
Topics of the upcoming vice presidential debate
The fourth debate will feature only three vice presidential candidates talking about issues related to natural resources, indigenous communities, environment, energy, and agrarian affairs.
Debate panelists
The KPU has announced the names of 11 panelists for the upcoming debate. Citing from Antara, most of the panelists are academics, and some of them are practitioners who are members of civil society organizations.
Here is the list of names of the eleven panelists:
Prof. Abrar Saleng (an expert on agrarian and natural resources law from the University of Hasanuddin, Makassar)
Dr. Arie Sudjito (a rural sociologist and lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta)
Prof. Arif Satria (a political ecologist and Rector of Bogor Agricultural Institute or IPB)
Dewi Kartika (an agrarian expert and Secretary General of the Agrarian Reform Consortium)
Fabby Tumiwa (an energy transition expert and Executive Director of the Institute for Essential Services Reform)
Prof. Hariadi Kartodihardjo (an expert in natural resources and environment and Professor at the Faculty of Forestry and Environment, IPB).
Prof. Ridwan Yahya (an expert in forestry and environment and Professor of Forest Product Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University)
Rukka Sombolinggi (secretary general of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago or Aman)
Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi (an expert in environmental management or Rector of Diponegoro University 2010–2015)
Prof. Sulistyowati Irianto (a professor of legal anthropology at the University of Indonesia)
Tubagus Furqon Sofhani (an expert in regional and rural planning at the Bandung Institute of Technology).
