TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will inaugurate senior political Arsul Sani as Constitutional Justice on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Jakarta at the Presidential Palace. The former head of the People's Consultative Assembly or MPR will replace Wahiduddin Adams in the Constitutional Court or MK.
According to Arsul, the inauguration was initially slated for today, Wednesday, January 17. However, since Jokowi is currently in East Kalimantan to attend the groundbreaking of several IKN projects, the inauguration has been rescheduled.
"Adjusted to the president's schedule," Arsul told Tempo.
The Coordinator for Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana could not confirm the inauguration until this afternoon, as did Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno.
Arsul was chosen to replace Wahiduddin on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Arsul Sani won over seven other candidates during the feasibility test in the Commission III of DPR. Those other candidates were Reny Halida Ilham Malik, Firdaus Dewilmar, Elita Rahmi, Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, Putu Gede Arya, Abdul Latif, and Haridi Hasan.
Arsul Sani must step down from his office in DPR and political party, in accordance with Article 15 (2) of Law No. 7 of 2020. The article stipulated that constitutional justices are not allowed to hold multiple offices as government officials.
Arsul claimed on Wednesday that he has let go of his position as deputy head of MPR, member of Commission III of DPR, and deputy head of the political party PPP since December.
When met in the MK Building on Wednesday, January 10, Arsul claimed to have no special preparation to anticipate his inauguration into office as Constitutional Justice.
However, he claimed that he would step down from several of his law firms to avoid conflict of interest. It will be announced during inauguration day he said.
