TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flooding, landslide, and uprooted trees hit Bandung and its surrounding areas due to extreme weather on Thursday, Jan. 11.

"Medium to heavy rain potential with lightning and strong winds is estimated for the next three days," said the head of the climatology station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of West Java Rakhmat Prasetia on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

The downpour occurred in the afternoon to evening in parts of Bandung Regency, Bandung City, West Bandung, Sumedang, Garut, Subang, Indramayu, and Karawang.

In Bandung, heavy rain poured over the city until Thursday evening, causing an overflow of the Cikapundung River. The muddy flooding swept over and swamped houses and roads in Padasuka, a residential area at Jalan Braga in the afternoon.

Meanwhile in Dago, a residential house was damaged by a landslide sweeping over its kitchen and the middle area of the house in the middle of the night. The Regional Disaster Management Agency or BPBD also reported a downpour in Cipamengpeuk Village, South Sumedang, causing a landslide. Heavy rain is also reported in Cijambe and Balingbing Villages in Subang.

Flooding is reported in Terisi District, Indramayu, swamping Cikawung-Wado Street reaching 60 to 70 centimeters in height. In Jomin Village, Karawang, a downpour with lightning damaged roofs.

A landslide cuts off access in Bungbulang District, Garut. Meanwhile, heavy flooding was recorded in Sunten Jaya Village, Lembang. As well as flooding in the Bojongsoang area, Cikembang, and Sukapura Villages in Bandung Regency.

Concerning the extreme weather, Rakhmat Prasetia warned residents and related institutions to remain vigilant of hydrometeorological disasters such as heavy to extreme rain that will potentially cause flooding, landslides, uprooted trees, and others.
