Govt Confirms 95 Indonesian Nationals Displaced After Japan Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 95 Indonesian nationals living in Japan are displaced after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit Ishikawa on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Referring to the data released by the Indonesian Embassy for Japan received in Tokyo on Sunday, Jan. 7, there are 183 Indonesian citizens affected by the earthquake in nine locations in Ishikawa.

Around 170 Indonesian nationals went back to their residential places, while 13 others remained in shelters in two locations.

Based on the investigation of the Indonesian Embassy team with the help of civilians, there are 95 displaced Indonesians in the region, with 38 people living in Ogi, 25 in Suzu, 27 in Saikai, and 5 in Wajima.

Indonesian Ambassador for Japan Heri Akhmadi said his side has delivered logistics aid for the affected Indonesian citizens in the form of mineral water, pre-packaged food, tissues, and other necessities.

Heri also added that the embassy continues to record the presence of Indonesian nationals affected by the earthquake and the conditions of their residence.

According to the information received until Saturday, around 110 were killed in the powerful earthquake, with 414 injured and 211 remaining missing.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo confirmed no Indonesian nationals were killed in the earthquake.
