TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) announced that the upcoming presidential debate, which is scheduled for Sunday, January 7, will take place at Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta.
According to KPU Commissioner August Mellaz, the decision to change the location and expand the topics of the debate was made during a meeting between the KPU, the campaign team of the three candidates, and the organizing media, and was agreed upon by all parties.
“It will take place at Istora Senayan,” August told journalists at the KPU building, on Wednesday, January 3.
The first debate was held at the courtyard of the KPU building on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, while the second debate was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on December 22, 2023.
Topics for the third debate
August also confirmed that two additional topics have been counted for the upcoming debate, which will only feature presidential candidates. These topics are defense, security, international relations, globalization, geopolitics, and foreign policy.
“Previously, there were four topics including defense and security. Both are separate issues and then we expand international relations issues with globalization and geopolitics with foreign policy,” he explained.
Technical changes
Previously, August confirmed that the KPU also planned to make some technical changes to the third debate. The KPU will provide a single microphone for each presidential candidate and expect them to remain at their respective podiums during the debate. This was done in light of the previous debates.
The third presidential debate will feature candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan, candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto, and candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo.
