Papua Police to Provide Maximum Security for the Arrival of Lukas Enembe's Body

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. Pol. Mathius D. Fakhiri said that the police will provide maximum security for the arrival of Lukas Enembe's body. According to his defense attorney Antonius Eko Nugroho, the deceased former Papua governor will be flown to Jayapura tomorrow, 27 December.
Lukas Enembe died this morning at the Central Military Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto, Central Jakarta, today, December 26. His death was confirmed by the hospital's head, Lt. Gen. TNI Albertus Budi Sulistya.
In a written statement on Tuesday, the police chief expressed his condolences and asked the people of Papua to accept the former governor's departure. He emphasized the importance of maintaining calm during the Christmas season by not being provoked by unverified information.
During the mourning period, Fakhiri ensured that the police would carry out optimum security efforts whilst respecting the Papuan culture and beliefs regarding funeral processions.
Fakhiri emphasized that the Papua Police will continue to maintain public security and order in Papua, and ensure that the funeral process takes place solemnly and orderly.
He said that Lukas Enembe's family will decide where the deceased will be buried. "This is in accordance with Papuan culture," he said.
