TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Pontifical Mass service at the Cathedral Church's Christmas celebration took place on Monday, December 25, 2023. Since 07:00 morning local time the Catholic congregation has taken the seats provided. According to Tempo's monitoring from outside the church, the road situation is safe and smooth.

Sawah Besar Police Assistant Commissioner (AKP) Danar said that the situation during Christmas celebration is always busy. "Especially when services are held. Today there are three masses, at those times it will definitely be busy," he said when met on Cathedral Street on Monday morning, December 25, 2023.

Pontifical Mass was celebrated at 08:30 local time. Furthermore, new congregation members can attend public or family mass at 11:00 or 17:00 local time. Meanwhile, security by the authorities is carried out 24 hours a day.

To avoid traffic jams, Danar said that the congregation's vehicles had been directed to the parking lots that had been provided. The locations are at four points, namely the Istiqlal Mosque parking area, Santa Ursula Junior High School, Satbekang AD, and Pos Indonesia. So far, according to his observation, there have been no traffic jams. "There's a lot of congregation. It's a bit of a hiccup, but it's running smoothly," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Cathedral Parish, Father Hani R Hartoko, said that the security of the Cathedral Church was being closely guarded by the police. "We are always assisted by security who manages all operations from the main side," he said. Where coordination has been carried out in one command, starting from the Central Jakarta Police and Sawah Besar Police which are backed up by the Jakarta Metro Police.

According to his observations, today's Christmas celebration went well. He also expressed his gratitude for last night's visit from the National Police Chief, Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, TNI Commander to supervise and check the progress of the Christmas celebrations.
