TEMPO.CO, Bogor - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) voiced his support to the Center for Financial Transaction Report and Analysis (PPATK) to monitor suspected laundered money transactions in the 2024 election's campaign funds.

The PPATK reported that transactions suspected of being laundered money in the election campaign increased by 100 percent in the second semester of 2023.

"Anything allegedly illegal must be investigated. There must be a legal process," the president stated after the launch of Otista Bridge on Tuesday.

President Jokowi emphasized that all parties involved in the 2024 election should follow the applicable regulations in terms of transactions and campaigns.

"Yes, everyone has to follow the rules," he affirmed.

Head of PPATK Ivan Yustiavandana stated that his side found that some campaign activities were conducted without transactions in the Campaign Fund Special Account (RKDK).

"Which means there is impropriety. Where does the campaign fund come from if the RKDK is not used? We see someone is using illegal sources to fund the campaign," he questioned.

He desisted from naming the legislative candidates or parties suspected of using funds from illegal money for campaigns, but the PPATK has reported these allegations to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

Laundered profits suspected of being used to fund campaigns came from other illegal activities, such as illegal mining, among others, with transaction value reaching trillions of rupiah.

Yustiavandana said his side would continue to monitor election-related transactions.

The PPATK has produced 297 analysis results involving 1,315 entities suspected of committing illegal actions, with a transaction value of up to Rp38 trillion throughout the period from 2016 to 2021.

The PPATK also produced 11 examination results involving 24 entities, with the potential value of illegal transactions reaching Rp221 trillion.
