TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry announced that Super Air Jet would become the first airline to operate in Dhoho International Airport in Kediri.
"The latest data showed that Super Air Jet will kick off operation in [Dhoho Airport] soon," said ministry secretary-general Novie Riyanto in a press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Without explaining in detail, Novie said the Dhoho International Airport will be ready for operation as soon as possible.
"The construction is at 100 percent, it also has been calibrated. We are still awaiting the coordination between operators, in this case, Angkasa Pura I, and the airlines," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi expected to inaugurate the Dhoho International Airport at the end of January or February 2024, a slight delay from the previous target at the end of this year.
The inauguration will be conducted after the assessment finalization of aviation security and safety under the Transportation Ministry's recommendation. "Based on that recommendation, private [airlines] will operate their flights anywhere," he said in Kediri on Friday, Dec. 8.
The Dhoho International Airport is a collaboration between Angkasa Pura I and PT SDHI, as a follow-up to the agreement between the Transportation Ministry and private entity PT Surya Dhoho Investama on Sept. 7, 2022.
