Indonesian Volunteers at Gaza Hospital Safe from Israeli Strikes

10 November 2023 14:25 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThree Indonesian citizens volunteering at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza have been confirmed to be safe following the Israeli air strikes on areas near the hospital on Thursday, November 9.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated with MER-C and received information that three Indonesian volunteers at the Indonesian Hospital have been contacted and are in good condition. They were in the basement when the attack took place,” the ministry’s spokesperson Lalu Muhammad Iqbal said on Friday, November 10.

Areas surrounding the Indonesian Hospital came under intense Israeli bombardment on Thursday evening, causing more physical damage to the hospital building.

As reported by Palestinian media Quds News Network, Israel launched around twenty airstrikes in the area where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced in northern Gaza. They are injured, sick, and neglected people, most of them are women and children.

Iqbal added that the attack target was the Taliza'tar area, which is located close to the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.

“Indonesia once again condemns the barbaric attacks on citizens and civilian objects, especially humanitarian facilities in Gaza,” Iqbal remarked.

Israel also launched airstrikes on or near at least three hospitals on Friday, November 10, according to Gaza officials. The attacks further endangered the health system in Palestine. Medical workers in the enclave are struggling to treat thousands of people injured or displaced. “The Israeli occupation launched simultaneous strikes on a number of hospitals during the past hours," Palestine Ministry of Health spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra told Al Jazeera television.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least 18 of 35 hospitals and 40 other health centers in Gaza were unable to operate due to damage from Israeli bombardment or fuel shortages.
